CASA Impact Story

CASA Impact Story

Emily (11), Mason (9), and Lily (7) were hopeful. As summer ended, they looked forward to going back to school—choosing new supplies, picking out their clothes, and embracing a fresh start. It was more than just the beginning of another school year; it was a step toward stability, as they had recently been reunited with their mother, who had worked hard to overcome her struggles.

But just one day before school began, everything changed. Their mother, who had shown such promise in her recovery, relapsed. In an instant, Emily, Mason, and Lily’s dreams of stability vanished. Removed once again from their mother’s care, the only safe place they had to cling to was their new CASA, Arlene.

The sibling’s journey first began in July 2022, when they were removed from their parents due to domestic violence, physical abuse, and substance abuse. After a year of progress, their mother was granted custody in September 2023 but by December 2023, the children had to be removed again after their mother allowed the father back into the home without necessary safeguards. Back home again in early 2024 for the second time, Arlene was assigned to the case to monitor the child’s well-being, where a friendship started to grow.

Since leaving what they knew to be home, Emily, Mason, and Lily have endured two more placements. With each change they’ve experienced, Arlene has remained their steady source of hope through their circumstances that seem hopeless.

This holiday season, we invite you to join us in walking alongside Emily, Mason, and Lily. Your support will allow CASA to continue providing the hope, guidance, and stability these siblings need to navigate the uncertainties ahead. Their journey doesn’t end here, and with your help, we can work to provide CASAs, like Arlene, with the support they need to be a beacon of hope to children and youth in foster care.

Will you be a source of hope for children and youth in foster care?

In the last fiscal year, CASA volunteers have collectively given over 5,458 hours of advocacy to over 186 children and youth in foster care and have driven over 45,493 miles across Kern ounty to visit with their CASA child/ren. Your contribution will provide tireless and courageous advocacy to hundreds of children and youth currently navigating the foster care system in Kern County.

Your donation not only provides stability and support for children like Emily, Mason, and Lily but also keeps you connected to their journey. With your gift, you’ll receive an update on how your support is making a lasting impact in their lives.

Together, we can bring hope for a brighter future.
