Cheryl has been devotedly serving as a CASA since 2014, taking on five different cases throughout her tenure. For the past seven years, she has been a steadfast presence in the life of her current CASA youth, knowing deep in her heart that she has made an immense difference. This resilient youth was placed in foster care at the tender age of 10 and has remained in care while her two brothers found adoptive homes. Enduring a staggering number of 27 foster home placements and 19 stays at the Jamison Center Children’s Shelter, which serves as a temporary refuge for children without a foster home, this youth has faced immense instability.
During the youth’s time in elementary school, Cheryl became a vocal advocate, fervently arguing for her to remain enrolled in her original school despite the frequent upheavals in placement. Through Cheryl’s unwavering determination, her youth was able to maintain a semblance of normalcy and stability by staying in the same school. The profound impact of this consistency cannot be overstated, as children in foster care confront numerous changes and disruptions throughout their lives. Having a dedicated CASA volunteer like Cheryl, fighting for them and speaking up on their behalf in court, is nothing short of essential for these vulnerable children.
Cheryl’s commitment to her CASA youth has not only provided support and guidance but has also empowered the youth to navigate the challenges they face. Through Cheryl’s advocacy, the youth has been granted a voice, ensuring that their best interests are heard and prioritized. In a world where uncertainties abound, Cheryl’s presence as a CASA volunteer has been a steadfast anchor, offering stability and unwavering support to a child in need.
